Memory limited to ~3.5gb A 32bit operating system is limited in how much memory (RAM) it can access. This varies on hardware configuration but can be as low as 3gb. Any additional memory will not be visible to the operating system or it's programs.
Increased Memory Limit 16gb - 192gb A 64bit operating system removes the memory limitations allowing up to 16gb in Home Premium, and 192gb in Pro and Ultimate. This allows you to run more programs simultaneously without slowing down the system, as well as handle the increasing memory requirements of applications today.
Better Compatibility 32bit has been the standard a long time so it guarantees the best compatibility with older software and hardware.
Faster and Future Proof 64bit is the way of the future. It's faster, and allows individual applications to access more memory. 99% of 32bit applications will still run just fine on a 64bit operating system. All hardware drivers however, must be 64bit.
